RAISE YOUR VOICE FOR COURTNEY
2020 - 2021 • Layout Design, Illustrations • Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Print Production
After the excitement of Kimberly Daley's first book, "Meatloaf Beatloaf", we were quick to get started on her second story, "Raise Your Voice For Courtney". Kimberly wanted the graphics for this book to be simplified to really highlight the main characters and their stories. We worked together over the course of the year and discussed the layouts, characters, illustrations, and overall storyline. We went through several changes for the characters, trying to base it off of her niece, Courtney, for whom she wrote the story. Each of Kimberly's stories grabs details from her family members, making the storyline and characters relatable for younger readers. When the book was finalized, we uploaded the print ready version for distribution as well as an ebook version of the book.
MEATLOAF BEATLOAF
2019 - 2020 • Layout Design, Illustrations • Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Print Production
I worked with up and coming author, Kimberly Daley on her first children's book, "Meatloaf Beatloaf". Over the course of a year we met to discuss the inspiration behind the characters, the book dummy, the overall storyline, illustration changes, promotional pieces, and uploading the final book for distribution. Kimberly wanted to base the main character, Tommy, off of her son, and his trusty companion Bailey, off of their family pet. As shown below, there were several stages of working on the main character's attributes. We worked together to convey a fun, entertaining, lighthearted story that would make the reader intrigued to flip to the next page. Through illustration, I made it so each page would tie into the following, as the main character took the reader through all of his wild imaginative ideas. This project taught me a lot about print production and the planning of layouts, illustrations, and all of the moving parts that contribute to creating a children's book.
